ugh. whyyyyyyy….why do I do this to myself.
Ok, after a less than stellar showing at Stratton last year, I’ve re-upped for the madness and am doing Mont Tremblant 9/5 & 9/6.
the basics: I have 36 hours to ascend basically a black diamond ski slope 15 times. each ascent covers 1.7 miles and has a vertical foot gain of 2026 ft for a total of 25.5 miles. We only climb up. then Gondola down and repeat.
Why did I choose this mountain? #1 It’s earlier than Stratton (which was freezing at the end of October). because of the taxing climb, I breathed through my mouth a lot and because it was so cold, I ended up damaging my vocal chords and had trouble breathing for weeks after. sweet.
That’s the main reason why. In deciding not to repeat Stratton, I wanted another mountain where a flight wasn’t necessary (this thing is expensive enough) and also one where altitude wouldn’t be an issue. Enter Mont Tremblant. It’s drivable (tho I did have to book an extra couple of hotel nights), weather should be fairly mild (tho last year it rained the whole time) and it’s pretty. if I’m gonna want to die, I’d rather look at pretty scenery.
I already feel like I’m in a better position fitness-wise at this same point pre climb last year. Back in February I opted in on the 1 on 1 coaching (cha-ching$). and it’s been worth it. Jarrod has designed a program based on my current ability and future goals. it’s been great.
I’m feeling strong and we are 17 weeks out!
stay tuned…..
