I’ve always managed to avoid spin classes. I went once ages ago and it was awful. I told the instructor it was my first time and she just pointed to a bike and basically said ‘go’. No instructions, helpful hints, etc. You can imagine how that went. It was AWFUL. I thought that I was going to die. And then I was afraid that I wouldn’t.
Fast forward a few years later. I’ve gone to a few classes and actually kind of sort of, look forward to it. As much as I look forward to anything workout related. I go to Stay Fit Studio here in Key West. My first class the instructor took me over to the bike, showed my how adjust the bike to fit me and explained about turning up the tension and how for my first couple of classes to not be afraid to back off. This time, I liked it! I love the music, the instructor’s enthusiasm is motivating and it’s great to be in a group workout session after spending so much time training alone.ย
I am far from good at it though. I’ve yet to mount or dismount the bike with anything resembling grace. I struggle a lot of the time to keep up with the class. I don’t exactly leap out of bed in the morning to go. But I’m going! Maybe someday I’ll be able to do all the climbs and all the sprints without backing off. Maybe I won’t cycle quite as angry during Bill’s class (I doubt it though ๐ And good god, I am just so very clumsy.
I’ll keep at it though. and hopefully it will help me on the bike leg of the tri and help my overall stamina.
